Utility Supervisor Job Opening

The Village of Franklin is looking to fill the position of Utility Supervisor. Qualifications are listed below. If interested submit an application (available in Village office) with a resume by the close of business September 5th 2025.

Utility Supervisor

Oversee water, gas, and sewer operations for the Village of Franklin. The utility supervisor ensures the utilities are running efficiently and safely. Responsible for maintaining all Village property, roads, drainage, equipment and buildings. Training and mentoring staff, assigning tasks and responsibilities as well as evaluating the performance of utility workers and other duties as assigned. Requires a combination of technical knowledge and management skills.

  • Inspect and evaluate utility facilities, equipment and machinery to determine necessary repairs or upgrades.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair work, ensuring work is completed timely, safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and up to date records/spreadsheets of utility operations and equipment, including maintenance and repair records.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, the mayor and trustees to resolve customer service issues and to ensure timely and effective resolution of problems.
  • Stay current on industry trends and regulations and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.
  • Complete basic road repair for potholes and other roadwork as needed.
  • Maintain Village property which includes but is not limited to mowing, snow removal, deicing, leaf and branch pick up on Village property.
  • Check for and handle drainage problems.
  • Respond to work orders in time allotted.

Utilities Supervisor Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree is not necessary, but it would be helpful.
  • Five plus years of experience in utility operations or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective ability to manage time and prioritize to meet deadlines.
